The Department of Art at Cornell's College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) is accepting applications for three faculty positions. We seek artists whose creative practice engages publics and expands imaginaries to advance actions and initiatives for social justice at AAP.

Tenure-track Assistant Professor or early-career Associate Professor of Art for Public Life
We seek a promising, interdisciplinary artist interested in public engagement. Strong candidates should reflect an awareness of theories, histories, and criticism relevant to their practice and an interest in intellectual exchange with colleagues in the humanities. We welcome applicants in any media. Of particular interest are artists who will make full use of opportunities at Cornell and in Ithaca for local and global engagement.

This position is supported by CIVIC (Critical Inquiry into Values, Imagination, and Culture), the Cornell provost's radical collaboration task force in the humanities and the arts, which recruits faculty in the fields of media and public life. The successful candidate will be expected to forge strong connections across colleges and departments and develop courses that meet the needs of students across the university.

Tenure-track Assistant Professor or early-career Associate Professor of Art for Social Justice and Equity Cohort hire
We seek one or two tenure-track assistant professors or early-career associate professors as part of a cohort hire of faculty whose creative practice, teaching, research, and scholarship advances social justice and equity at AAP. The candidate will advance their own creative practice in parallel with the larger project of expanding imaginaries for social change that prepare students for making art in an increasingly diverse and inclusive world. Accordingly, we seek candidates with strong and creative teaching experience, a significant record in exhibition or other modes of public artistic engagement, and a critical practice that has received wide recognition. Of particular interest for this search are artists whose practice includes print media, time-based media, installation, and/or performance. Nonetheless, because individual faculty and student practices often lie beyond or across these traditional categories, we also encourage applications from a full range of media, practice, and background/orientation.

AAP Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, tenured faculty position
AAP seeks a tenured faculty member at the associate or full professor level to be appointed in one of the college's three departments. The successful candidate will serve as the inaugural Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and will be a key member of the college's senior leadership team, charged with advancing the college's vision and priorities around academic excellence and inclusion. Strong candidates should have a distinguished record of experience in teaching with a demonstrated ability to engage in scholarship, research, and/or creative work. They must also demonstrate academic excellence and leadership in their field of expertise, as well as evidence of a deep commitment to engaging in diversity, equity, and belonging in the academy.

About the department
AAP's Department of Art offers BFA and MFA degrees with a strong liberal arts component. In 2018, the department renewed its commitment to integrate a wide range of intellectual and representational variables into art practice. The department enjoys close relationships with Cornell's Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, the Cornell Library, and a range of academic units in the humanities, sciences, and technology across the university. Art faculty and students have access to extensive traditional and digital production facilities, and to the abundant resources of a major research institution. The department also offers semester-long undergraduate studio programs in both New York City and Rome, Italy.

Diversity and Inclusion are a part of Cornell University's heritage. We are a recognized employer and educator valuing AA/EEO, Protected Veterans, and Individuals with Disabilities.
