Virtual MFA open studios 2021

Yale School of Art

Design: Mengjie Liu and Churong Mao.

The Yale School of Art hosts its annual graduate open studios virtually for the first time in 2021, with work presented online from the departments of Graphic Design, Painting and Printmaking, Photography, and Sculpture.

At 12am on Saturday, April 10, the 2021 Open Studios digital platform will come online—conceptualized, alongside a special series of virtual programming, in an effort to realize an authentic digital representation of what is traditionally an intimate experience with each MFA students’ work and practice.

Perhaps most directly representative of the in-person event are virtual studio drop-in hours, "Live on Zoom." Scheduled times during which artists will be available over Zoom in their studios—made available at the discretion of each student—"Live on Zoom" will allow for members of the public to connect directly to the artists and their studio spaces. These drop-in hours function as the central element within a broader array of virtual programming scheduled across the two days of open studios.

For the developing schedule of events as it becomes available, subscribe to the School of Art’s public events calendar, available here.

About the Yale School of Art
The Yale School of Art provides students with intellectually informed, hands-on instruction in the practice of an array of visual arts media within the context of a liberal arts university. As a part of the first institution of higher learning to successfully integrate a studio-based education into such a broad pedagogical framework, the Yale School of Art has a long and distinguished history of training artists of the highest caliber. A full-time faculty of working artists in conjunction with a diverse cross-section of accomplished visiting artists collaborate to design a program and foster an environment where the unique talents and perspectives of individual students can emerge and flourish.

The school currently offers graduate degrees, and undergraduate-level art courses to Yale College students, in the areas of graphic design, painting/printmaking, photography, and sculpture.
