Pratt Institute seeks a founding director of a planned center for teaching and learning, scheduled to open its doors for the fall 2018 semester.

The Center for Teaching and Learning will advance, support, and sustain a strong and inclusive culture of teaching and learning across the Institute, serving all of Pratt’s faculty. As it contributes to quality teaching within and across disciplines at Pratt—in our studios and classrooms—the Center will also help to ensure that we serve our students as well as we possibly can, and that we achieve equitable outcomes for all.

Ideally, the Center for Teaching and Learning will be a place that supports faculty in the generation and nurturing of ideas related to teaching and learning (including assessment for learning), as well as a practical resource that offers programs and tools related to pedagogy, curriculum development, learning research and more.

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the founding director will be a proven leader who can advance teaching and learning, including assessment for learning, at the Institute, with particular attention to the needs and opportunities offered by Pratt’s expertise in art and design fields. The director will have a demonstrated knowledge of research on teaching, learning, and assessment; meaningful experience in the areas of faculty and/or organizational development; and a strong record of teaching in higher education. Working with partners across campus, and drawing on current research in relevant fields, the director will shape and implement a mission for the Center that establishes it as a vital, trusted source of energy and support for teaching, learning, and assessment at Pratt. Developing faculty leadership for teaching, learning, and assessment is expected to be a critical part of its operations.
