Design Academy Eindhoven is calling aspiring Masters of Design to apply for a place on its Information Design course. Information Design is a Masters course that teaches students the design attitude needed to turn the information age into the age of being well informed.

The information age empowers individuals to understand, explore and shape their surroundings in unprecedented ways, but despite all the new tools and technologies, to many the world seems more complicated than ever. Information Designers are able to sift through the wealth of data describing our individual and collective patterns of behaviour, transactions and thoughts. They can identify what is relevant and translate this into meaningful ideas and tactics.

The programme
The Master Information Design is situated in a domain framed by three crucial notions: technology, critical reflection and communication.

The programme

The two-year curriculum of the Master Information Design is set up around research, design and writing assignments by tutors and supervisors, and lectures and workshops by guest lecturers. In the first year students obtain the skills and knowledge to take on an individual design research project during their second year. Students are challenged to develop a critical, autonomous attitude towards current practices and paradigms in the design field and how these relate to society. In their final year students develop a thesis and design project in which they use, showcase and communicate the tools and attitude developed during their course.

The programme is set up to guide students towards exploring their own fields of interest. Second-year students eventually work on individual research themes, which they formulate themselves. To help students make an informed choice of topical research themes the DAE Master programmes cooperate with institutes outside the academy such as governments, companies and leading experts, as well as with the researchers of the DAE-Readerships.

Students
Designing information is a multidisciplinary effort, so students in the Master Information Design can come from a range of backgrounds: graphic design, interaction design, architecture and journalism all come together. This Master course is an English-language, two-year full time programme. To be admitted into the Master Information Design applicants must pass a selection procedure and hold a relevant BA certificate.
