The Transart Summer Academy in Berlin is open to artists and curators who would like to revitalize their practice, gain fresh perspectives on their work, experiment in a protected, supportive environment and/or to strike out in a new directions. Our summer academy attendees join an international population of faculty, graduate and doctoral students in workshops, lectures, critiques, exhibitions, and events at the beautiful, fully equipped dance and performance spaces at User Studios.

Summer attendees are eligible to engage in additional support through Transart in designing a year-long independent project and have the option to choose and engage an advisor to receive support for their praxis during the following year. Post-residency Transartists continue to exhibit, publish, perform and discuss with their international community.

About Transart Institute
International diaspora, post-nationalism and post-colonialism; identity; exile; the role of art in peace and mediation; space in between; home; temporary architecture; cultural engagement through food; foreignness, otherness and the uncanny; and publicness, collaboration and the social are areas Transart Institute is particularly interested in supporting and instigating research, projects and practices in. We champion independent thinking, experimentation and informed endeavors.

The “transartist” vision is continually amplified by a growing global network of artists, curators and creative thinkers working collectively in hybrid ways that span engaged sites and interactive online spaces from Brazil to Australia, Ethiopia to Canada, Pakistan to Iceland. These reverberating actions further stimulate emergent streams of public programming and events such as the Transart Triennale, and ELSE Journal) and drive our educational curiosity even further. This exciting moment finds Transart again at the cutting edge of what schools, arts institutions, communities and broader cultural experiences might be in the 21st century. Transart Institute was founded by two artists and remains operated entirely by artists.
