This year the Städelschule celebrates its 200-year anniversary. Founded in 1817, the school figures amongst the foremost art academies in the world, offering degrees in fine art, architecture and curatorial & critical studies.

From the first to fifth of June 2017, the Städelschule Frankfurt will host its annual Rundgang, or student exhibition. During this five-day event, students from the classes of internationally acclaimed faculty members such as Monika Baer, Johan Bettum, Peter Fischli, Douglas Gordon, Judith Hopf, Tobias Rehberger, Willem de Rooij, Amy Sillman, Haegue Yang, and deputy professor Josef Strau, will open their studios to the public. Works will be shown on the two main campuses in Dürerstraße and Daimlerstraße, Frankfurt; the Curatorial Studies program conduct a series of talks with artists and curators at the school's lecture hall; video artists and filmmakers show recent productions in the Deutsche Filmmuseum and the Architecture Class students exhibit in their studios. With over 190 students in total presenting their work, the Rundgang has become one of Frankfurt’s most prominent art events.

The Städelschule faculty, also including Daniel Birnbaum, Isabelle Graw and Philippe Pirotte, attracts a unique student body with over 70 percent of students from abroad. Furthermore, guest professors, lecturers, and visiting tutors have supported and developed a diverse range of teaching formats. Visiting faculty in 2016/17 includes guest professors Mark von Schlegell, Laure Prouvost and Ed Atkins. Lecturers included Luc Boltanski, Pavel Büchler, Elysia Crampton, Keren Cytter, Sylvia Lavin, Jumana Manna, Farshid Moussavi, Albert Oehlen, Josephine Pryde, Theodore Spyropoulos, Kerstin Stakemeier, Amalia Ulman, Danh Vo, Jochen Volz and Michael Young. For the Architecture Class, guest professors Efrén García Grinda, Cristina Díaz Moreno, Beatriz Colomina, Peter Trummer and Mark Wigley have conducted specializations and seminars.

A unique feature of Städelschule is its Kunsthalle Portikus, an institution for contemporary art in Frankfurt am Main. Since its foundation in 1987, Portikus is dedicated to exhibit, publish and discuss young and emerging as well as established artists. During Rundgang, Portikus features the exhibition Slide show with Sirah Foighel Brutmann and Eitan Efrat, Susanne Kriemann, and Yutaka Sone. The exhibition unites three different positions and generations, focusing in each on a medium that may be historic, yet is unmistakable in its ability to develop narratives and negotiate themes. As the title of the exhibition suggests, the focus is on artistic works shown as slide projections or grappling with the presentation of single photographs, either in the form of slides or contact sheets.
