—————————————————————

The Jewish Theological Seminary is now accepting applications from museum professionals including museum directors, educators, and registrars, for the Institute in Jewish Art, a seminar on Judaica art. Under the educational direction of Dr. Vivian Mann, renowned scholar of Judaica art, the Institute combines classroom instruction with site visits to important collections, and special events. Participants will be connected to a national network of colleagues and experts and will:

• learn about the history of Jewish ceremonial art

• view important collections

• participate in lectures and class room instruction

• apply new knowledge and skills to works of similar form in your own collection and/or in traveling exhibitions presented at your museum

The Institute will be held at The Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City. Part One of the seminar will be May 21-26, 2006, Part Two, September 17-18, 2006, and Part Three, November 12-13, 2006.

The deadline for the application is April 30, 2006, and the invited participants will be notified by May 10, 2006. There is no fee for participation in the Institute as all program expenses are covered by a generous grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. In addition, participants will receive a certificate of completion and an honorarium of $500 upon successful completion of the program. Housing, breakfast, and lunch will be provided. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the participant’s institution.

All applicants must submit a letter signed by their division head or museum director indicating support of their participation in all three sessions.
