Syracuse University

Let There Be Light

Syracuse’s THE WAREHOUSE GALLERY presents King and Courage: Tim Rollins + K.O.S. in collaboration with Fowler and Nottingham high schools, a selection of paintings, drawings and video projection. The exhibition opens Feb. 19 and runs through Apr. 5. Rollins will present a talk in the gallery on Feb. 21 from 3:30-5 p.m. The artist talk is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception in the gallery from 5-8 p.m.

Working in their trademark collaborative style, Rollins and K.O.S present previous work along with new pieces produced specifically for the exhibition in a master class held in early February with students from Fowler and Nottingham high schools in Syracuse, N.Y. The work in the exhibition is inspired by the speeches of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Red Badge of Courage by
Stephen Crane

Colgate’s CLIFFORD ART GALLERY and the Department of Art and Art History present Let There Be Light: Tim Rollins + K.O.S. after Haydn’s The Creation. The exhibition opens on February 25 and runs through April 6. On February 27 at 430 pm the artist and a panel of distinguished Colgate faculty and staff will engage in an interdisciplinary conversation on the nature of creation, texts and inspiration, immediately followed by a reception for the artist. The gallery and all related events are free and open to the public

The core of this exhibition is a folio of seven screenprints, the culmination of sixty voices gathered together by Helen Frederick, of Pyramid Atlantic Studios. Inspired by Franz Josef Haydn’s “The Creation” oratorio of 1798, Rollins + K.O.S. members collaborated with Washington, D.C. metropolitan area students from elementary, middle, high school and George Mason University along with master printmaker Pepe Coronado, papermaker Mary Ashton, curators Andrea Pollan and Milena Kalinovska.

The exhibition and discussion are ArtsMix Events, sponsored by the Institute for Creative and Performing Arts at Colgate University
