NYSID President Christopher Cyphers has announced the appointment of Andrea O’Neill as Vice President for Institutional Advancement, a new position for the college. O’Neill will start on January 12, 2009, and will oversee all of the fundraising activities for the college.
“Andrea’s demonstrable experience with building a development office and her track record of successful fundraising activities in each of her previous positions are precisely what NYSID needs to grow the institution’s fledgling development efforts,” said President Cyphers. “I have every confidence that Andrea will create an office of institutional advancement whose work will help our college realize its strategic planning goals.”
NYSID Board Member Dr. Patricia M. Sovern shared President Cyphers’ enthusiasm. “As Chair of the Development Committee of NYSID’s Board of Trustees, I am thrilled with the appointment of Andrea O’Neill as our new Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Andrea brings to this critical position all of the skills necessary to advance our fundraising efforts in a time of considerable challenge. Her work will help us to further our mission as a center of excellence in the education of design professionals. My fellow board members and I really look forward to working with her.”
O’Neill served for five years as Director of Development of S.L.E. Lupus Foundation and Lupus Research Institute, New York. She was responsible for all aspects of the fundraising program, including projecting annual fundraising goals and expenses, broadening the donor base, and advancing the national major gifts and planned giving programs. Prior to her tenure at the Lupus Foundation, O’Neill was the Vice President for Development and Institutional Advancement at HealthCare Chaplaincy Inc. She received her undergraduate degree in marketing at Syracuse University and has a certificate in fundraising management from Columbia University.

With a new and ambitious strategic plan in place, it is the perfect juncture to build a fundraising program that will not only sustain, but also advance the college’s important educational mission well into the future. I am truly excited to lead this effort.”
Founded in 1916, New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) is New York’s only private, not-for-profit college devoted exclusively to interior design education and related disciplines.
