February 2: Distinguished Alumni Lecture: Saya Woolfalk
In her ongoing project No Place, SAIC alumna Saya Woolfalk (MFA 2004) presents a multimedia, fictional future that reworks tropes of sexual, racial, and gender difference.
February 22: Doug Aitken (FREE admission)
The Art Institute of Chicago, Fullerton Hall, 111 S. Michigan Ave.
Widely known for his innovative art installations, Doug Aitken is at the frontier of 21st-century communication, leading his audience into a world where time, space, and memory are fluid concepts.
March 11: Amy Franceschini
An overarching theme in Amy Franceschini’s work is the conflict between humans and nature, and her projects reveal the ways that local politics are affected by globalization.
March 15: Doris Salcedo
Colombia-based artist Doris Salcedo explores the significance of everyday objects and her sculptures and installations infuse domestic materials with gestures of political and psychological archaeology. Co-presented by the William Bronson and Grayce Slovet Mitchell Lectureship in Fiber & Material Studies at SAIC.
April 6: Matt Keegan
Matt Keegan works mainly with photography, collage, printmaking, and sculpture, recently addressing the myriad possibilities of archives and ways to map and record time.
April 14: Ryan Trecartin (FREE admission), with an artist screening April 15, 6:00 p.m., at the Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N. State St. (10 USD general public; 7 USD students; 5 USD members; 4 USD SAIC students, faculty, and staff)
Ryan Trecartin’s videos depict worlds where consumer culture and interactive systems are amplified to absurd proportions, combining avant-garde logics and outlandish color and drama to produce stream-of-consciousness effects.
