This intensive master class will approach 19th and 20th century jewelry from a variety of angles. The first two days will consist of lectures and field studies. Lecture topics will range from the social significance of jewelry to the history of major houses such as Tiffany & Co., and an authority on precious stones will lecture from a connoisseur’s point of view. Field trips will include a private, curator-led tour of American jewelry at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s newly renovated American wing, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Van Cleef & Arpels workshop and archives. About Christie’s Education
Christie’s Education New York has been designated as a degree-granting institution by the New York State Board of Regents. Our full-time graduate program in Modern Art, Connoisseurship and the History of the Art Market is registered with the New York State Education Department. Teaching methods are based on investigating works of art in order to train through direct exposure to art-world practice. Each piece of work a student undertakes is related to professional practice, from curatorial and acquisition report writing, to review writing and artifact analysis, as well as training in auction house cataloguing.

Christie’s Education short courses are non-degree programs run in conjunction with Christie’s auction house that address a wide variety of topics. These courses include full-day master classes, evening lecture series, and study trips away from New York.
