MUSEUM EDUCATOR & COORDINATOR OF PUBLIC PROGRAMS

Responsibilities include:

• Develop, in collaboration with the Director and curatorial staff, lectures, symposia, film and music series, and other public programs in conjunction with temporary exhibitions and permanent collection displays

• Develop outreach programs targeted at the St. Louis regional community and K–12 students and teachers

• Develop, research, and write educational materials, including visitor guides to exhibitions, education programs, educator resources, and other outreach materials, working with curatorial and editorial staff

• Develop and oversee the management of the student docent program; conduct or otherwise facilitate adult and school group tours; oversee Museum volunteers in Education

• Develop and implement the Teaching Gallery program, working with the Assistant Curator for Collections, to facilitate faculty use of the permanent collection in teaching; collaborate with faculty to integrate collections and exhibitions into University curriculum

• Develop program evaluation and assessment procedures and supervise their implementation, working with the Manager of Marketing and Visitor Services

• Establish and maintain educational program budgets

• Research and apply for grants for education programs; assist with grant applications for exhibitions and other projects related to education, working with the Managing Editor of Publications

Requirements

• M.A. in Art History, Arts Education, or related field, or equivalent experience

• Familiarity with current issues in and interest in advancing the contemporary discourse of museum pedagogy

• Proven experience with educational program development (minimum of three years museum education experience preferred)

• Ability to interpret curatorial visions for broad audiences

• Ability to collaborate with, supervise, and inspire a range of student, staff, and academic professionals as well as general audiences

• Excellent oral and written communication skills; interpersonal, supervisory, and administrative skills; diplomacy and initiative

• Some evening and weekend hours required
