New York School of Interior Design launches Master’s Program in Interior Lighting Design

According to NYSID’s President Christopher Cyphers, “We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Chuck’s professional and teaching experience to lead the school’s new graduate program in lighting design.” The MPS in Interior Lighting Design is a logical extension of NYSID’s programmatic expansion and institutional growth, which reflects the changing landscape of the design profession.”

The MPS in Interior Lighting Design will focus on natural and artificial illumination for the interior environment. It will offer a range of skills and techniques, both conceptual and practical; history and theory of lighting design; sustainability principles; integrated system design; as well as financial analysis, code compliance and project maintenance. The 30-credit degree requires a one-year completion and is structured to accommodate working professionals. The program will be housed in NYSID’s new state-of-the-art Graduate Center at 401 Park Avenue South.

Prior to starting his own firm, Cameron held partner and principal designer positions at leading companies where he honed his lighting design skills and developed an expertise in developing and servicing all the lighting needs of a diverse clientele. These include Meeker Cameron Lighting Design Group, Luce Lighting LLC, Leni Schwendinger Light Projects, LTD, and Focus Lighting, Inc.

His teaching credentials include instructor and visiting lecturer at New York’s School of Visual Arts and Drew University. Cameron has a MFA in theatrical lighting design from New York University and a BA in theater arts from Drew University. He is also the Vice President/NYC Chapter of Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.

This program is timely due to the growing importance of high quality and energy efficient lighting in our current practice of designing spaces for people.”
