The School of Visual Arts (SVA) and the MFA Computer Art Department host the MFA Computer Art 2011 Thesis Presentations. The event will be held over two days at the SVA Theatre and will include the work of graduating students.

The artists explore the search for personal identity in an urban environment, the complexities of social interaction, use of locative media, and the impact technology has had on human interaction in real and virtual environments. 3D animated/motion graphics works emphasize storytelling from both an insightful and humorous approach to the human condition and video artists create works from an abstract and conceptual approach. Other works visualize the reinterpretation of data from literal sources into abstract imagery from streaming environments. Department chair Bruce Wands comments that, “We place a strong emphasis on creativity and personal vision. This is essential in the development of an artist. As a multidisciplinary department, our students have a broad palette of courses and state of the art facility within which any idea in the digital realm can be realized.”

The SVA Theatre is located at 333 W 23rd Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. The theater’s new design is the work of world-renowned designer Milton Glaser and features what may be the city’s largest kinetic sculpture atop the theater’s marquee.  The theater is accessible by wheelchair. For more information, please call 212.592.2980.

MFA Computer Art Department emphasizes creative experimentation and a multidisciplinary approach.
