Full-time Head of Research Department
Job description:

  • Leading, managing and supporting the Research department of the School of Arts;
  • Drawing up a strategic outlook on research in the arts and in design within the faculty in consultation with the dean and the heads of department;
  • Coordination of research-related matters at the School of Arts, in consultation with the dean and within the outlines formulated by the faculty council and by University College Ghent’s research council;
  • Participating actively in the international debate on the development of the new discipline;
  • Setting up and coordinating research programmes regarding the individuality of research in the arts and in design;
  • Following up on trends in pedagogy and policy with regard to the academization of arts programmes;
  • Formulating advice on research matters;
  • Supervising the production of publications by research staff;
  • Organizing consultation and collaboration with Ghent University, with the higher institutes for the arts in Flanders and with foreign research institutes;
  • Serving on the board of international journals regarding research in the arts and in design, participating in the thematic network ELIA dealing with artistic research and in international policy bodies regarding research in the arts and in design.


Full-time Research Department Executive
Job description:

  • Organizing the evaluations of project proposals in consultation with the Research Department of University College Ghent;
  • Assisting in writing project proposals and in raising research funding;
  • Organizing workshops on ‘writing methodology’ for research in the arts and in design;
  • Organizing the doctoral programme in the arts within the context of Ghent University’s Doctoral School of Humanities and Law;
  • Following up on substantial investments and infrastructural issues of researchers; 
- Initiating a policy regarding intellectual property and copyright in the context of research output in the arts and in design, in collaboration with the Research Department of University College Ghent;
  • Following up on agreements on the valorization of artistic output;
  • Organizing post-doctoral counselling;
  • Screening funding agencies as well as initiating and supporting cross-departmental funding applications;
  • Stimulating and organizing communication on research in the arts and in design within the departments and to students and third parties.
