Professor in Design, especially Colours and Materials
The position can be filled in Assistant / Associate / Full Professor level of the Aalto University Tenure track system.
Job description
The Department of Design is looking for a professional with strong experience in colours and materials in design processes and production within the emerging fields of textile, spatial and industrial design. The professor is expected to develop and lead multi- and interdisciplinary processes and projects across the departments and schools of Aalto University and in close connection with the society.
The Department of Design offers an inspiring research and education community. The professor will create knowledge and expertise on crossing the borders of art, design and research. She/he will teach and lead research and artistic activities on the phenomena on the dynamic interfaces of these disciplines. Currently Aalto University is reforming its Bachelor´s degrees. The person chosen for the position is expected to become closely linked to this process in the Department of Design.
The position will be placed on the Aalto University Tenure Track. Individuals on the Aalto University professorial tenure track have the possibility to advance in their career through regular performance assessments, which take into account their merits in all areas of their scope of duty. Requirements
The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their professional artistic or design competence, teaching and research merits, production, co-operative skills and leadership in artistic or academic community.
The applicant is expected to have:
–Design and artistic experience
–Expertise in design processes, design collections, design concepts and product development
–Doctoral degree or artistic qualifications that are comparable to a doctoral degree
–Teaching agenda that complements and expands the core areas of the department
–Teaching competence, pedagogical studies are an advantage
–Research knowledge and experience in applied research is an advantage
–Fluency in English and an international network within the field of professorship
