Adjacent to Culver City’s burgeoning arts district is the new home of Otis Graduate Studios. This facility on the Jefferson corridor comprises 38 artists’ studios and spaces for special programming including artists in residence, exhibitions, and lectures.

Culver City, the long-standing film industry hub, has become a mecca for artists, architects, fashion, and tech. The city is a powerful new multimedia hub boasting dynamic start-ups, international firms, and a vibrant artistic community. Nearby Silicon Beach is home to new spaces for tech giants Google and Apple, along with more than 500 venture start-ups. A few miles away on Jefferson is the Hercules Campus, original home of Howard Hughes’ legendary Spruce Goose, and now a fulcrum for emerging media, technology, and entertainment industries.

Otis Graduate Public Practice, under the leadership of Suzanne Lacy—artist, and theorist of socially engaged public art, prepares students to re-invent traditional media-specific ways of thinking about art making. Entering students design a unique educational plan to fit their interests, in both community and studio contexts. They produce video, performance, drawing, photography, sculpture and web-based projects.

In Otis Graduate Fine Arts, led by Roy Dowell, students develop a personal vision that has been filtered through history, gender, sexuality, culture, and politics. The program promotes strong interaction and critical dialogue among all participants, encouraging students to converse in the language of art. Alumni include Alison Saar, Masami Teraoka, Kent Twitchell, and Bruce Yonemoto.

Applications are now being accepted for fall 2014.
