Cranbrook Academy of Art
Emily Baker (Architecture ’12), Study in Spin-Valence. Steel, 20 x 5 x 7.5 feet.

Cranbrook Academy of Art, a preeminent graduate school of art, design and architecture seeks applications for two one-semester residential teaching fellowships for the fall 2015 and spring 2016 semesters. The Academy’s Critical Studies Fellowship Program brings scholars from a wide range of fields to work closely with Cranbrook graduate students to explore the intersections of theory and culture studies with visual art and design practice.

For the 2015–2016 fellowships, the Academy is seeking scholars working in fields that expose the impact and possibilities of the technological, networked, digital environment on our ideas, identities, and cultures. Scholars from diverse areas of interest are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must hold an advanced degree in their field (MA or higher, PhD preferred), have graduate-level teaching experience and an interest in the links between their work and a visual art/craft/design studio practice. The Fellow will have both formal and informal time with students, including public lectures, discussion groups, studio visits and critiques. Opportunities also exist for creative curatorial, research or other projects while in residence. This position is well-suited to an emerging professional, although all levels are invited to apply. Fellows must reside on campus and be free from other professional duties during the semester. Please note: we are not seeking candidates who are primarily studio artists or designers or who propose a studio-based series.

Fellowship includes:
Travel stipend toward R/T travel to campus and/or professional activities
Housing (private furnished apartment on campus)

Application must be received by December 1.

To apply, please compile a single PDF that includes:
– Completed application form
– Letter of interest
– Proposal of a series or theme for the semester (please outline two lectures and three discussion topics)
– Academic CV (including bibliography of published work)
– Links to lectures or presentations available online
– Names and contact information for three references (must include telephone number)
– Please title your application PDF with your first and last name (example: marie.curie.pdf)
