The Trondheim Academy of Fine Art is accepting applications for the international MFA program starting in autumn 2015. The application deadline is February 1.

For 2015 there will be an opportunity of scholarships for students from developing countries in the South and countries of Central and East Europe and Central Asia under the Norwegian Quota Scheme.

The international MFA program is designed for artists with the ambition to develop and enrich their individual studio practice with cross-disciplinary investigations in a wide range of different fields of knowledge. Situated within the international research context of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and operating in the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Art, the program offers a unique environment to expand the depth and complexity of self-initiated, creative work and to experiment with new approaches across disciplines and technologies.

The international MFA program allows artists to spend two years of research-intensive investigation developing a project and an artistic portfolio in a pre-professional environment. The two-year study program culminates in a thesis project that is presented in a group exhibition, which is carried out in close collaboration with local art institutions.

The Trondheim Academy of Fine Art is located outside of the NTNU campus in a former factory building. The academy offers each MFA student a large individual studio as well as access to collaborative workspaces and newly equipped workshops for wood, metal, plaster, printmaking, photo, video, sound and computer-based work. It is well connected to a small but vibrant local art scene with artist-run galleries, exhibition halls, and museums.

The MFA course program combines mentoring, studio visits, lectures, workshops and field trips in a curriculum that reflects contemporary issues and is in dialogue with a global community of artists and thinkers. Collaborative projects, such as “Art and Common Space” and “Politics of Memory,” focus on creative and intellectual approaches to a critically informed artistic production. Current faculty includes Anne-Karin Furunes, Simon Harvey, David Rych, Florian Schneider and Milica Tomic.

Visiting artists and guest teachers during the fall term 2014 included: Cory Arcangel, Arianna Bove, Jordi Colomer, Bojana Cvejic, Erik Empson, Maaretta Jaukkuri, Geert Lovink, Mary Sherman, Dan Perjovschi, Mårten Spångberg, Walid Sadek, Sille Storihle, Eyal Weizman among many others.

Teaching language of all courses is English. Currently, there is no tuition fee. International students who are not enrolled in a fellowship or scholarship program are welcome at NTNU, provided they have proof of sufficient funding to pay their living expenses.

Applicants should hold a BFA degree or prove equivalent qualification based on an artistic portfolio.

Applications need to be registered here. Once registered, applicants will be guided through the application procedure. More information here.
