Registration is now open for the event that will open the doors of some of the most beautiful spaces in Florence in an unconventional reflection on fashion culture.

From 12 to 16 May, Florence will open its doors to the world, displaying some of its most important architectural and artistic treasures during an important cultural event organised by the international fashion institute, Polimoda. “Momenting the Memento” is an international project that unites 46 advanced training institutes specialising in fashion during the annual conference of the IFFTI network (the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes), which will bring many institutes, companies and representatives of the innovative fashion segment from all over the world to Florence, the cradle of Renaissance. In a moment that aims to reactivate and stimulate Florence by remembering its history and focusing on its inspirations, there will be debates, performances and installations that will involve various visionaries including international artists, experts, and opinion leaders from the worlds of art, fashion, and culture.

Among the many historic, iconic locations in the city, three museums will provide an extraordinary backdrop for the videos, performances and installations being shown, opening themselves to the public in an unconventional form:
Opera Di Santa Croce (Piazza Santa Croce 16)
– Central National Library of Florence (Piazza dei Cavalleggeri 1)
– Marino Marini Museum (Piazza San Pancrazio)

The Odeon Cinehall, in Via degli Anselmi, will be hosting debates, exhibitions and lectures, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.

Finally, thanks to the collaboration of Florence City Council, the halls of Palazzo Vecchio will be hosting some of the institutional events and occasions, while guests can register in the Polimoda Headquarters, Villa Favard, in Via Curtatone 1, and attend the meetings held by the IFFTI Executive Committee to open the five-day event.

Guests
A number of internationally renowned guests and critics are expected to visit the five-day event for the “In Conversation with…” series of relaxed conversations and debates that will focus on various installations and performance events that take place during the conference. They will include a lecture by French sociologist Michel Maffesoli; installations by Chinese intellectual and activist Ou Ning, together with fashion designer Ma Ke, and a contribution by well-known fashion journalist Tim Blanks, the participation of The Nose, Sissel Tolas, and fashion expert Imran Amed, to name but a few.

Meetings and thoughts will be open to the public in the form of debates, the exhibition, and a question & answer session as part of a full programme of events.

Projects
“Momenting the Memento,” curated by Linda Loppa and inspired by Danilo Venturi’s book of the same name, will be held in symbolic locations around Florence based on six sub-themes: #Body, #Calligraphy, #Craft, #Dress, #Imagery, and #Space.

For each of theme, the best ideas have been selected from over 180 entries submitted by young people, teachers, artists and creative designers from all over the world as part of an international contest. These will be translated and presented to the public as videos, performances, installations, and papers.

In collaboration with ASVOFF – A Shaded View on Fashion Film—the traveling fashion and cinema festival created by Diane Pernet, international fashion icon and blogger—a video contest is open to young creative talents to produce a short (one to three minute) film on one of the themes of the event. The competition deadline is March 31.
