Flavio Merlo/Ben Rosenthal: Bottom Feeders – The Battle of the Cataplasm

We are pleased to announce Flavio Merlo and Ben Rosenthal as this year’s recipients of the Kadist – Kunsthalle Zürich Production Award, offered for the third time to young Zürich artists by the Kadist Art Foundation and Kunsthalle Zürich. Merlo and Rosenthal’s Bottom Feeders – The Battle of the Cataplasm is a puppet play staging a crime plot for ten puppets and three stages.
Performed by two actors, Bottom Feeders – The Battle of the Cataplasm involves existential contradictions, communicative confusions, and corporeal thresholds.

Living together, it is often said, in a house in Dubai, lies at the heart of Ramin Haerizadeh’s, Rokni Haerizadeh’s and Hesam Rahmanian’s collaborative work. Conviviality and conversation then, provide specific access to their and multi-facteted aesthetic and critical discourse.
In his conversation with the artists, Daniel Baumann, new Director of Kunsthalle Zürich, will enter the aims and assemblages of this show through the back door.
Hannah Weiner Day
Workshop, reading, and a talk

The American poet Hannah Weiner (1928–97) saw words, wrote them down, and enacted them. What do they mean for us today? How to see what she saw, read what she wrote, hear what’s still there? Conceived together with Franziska Glozer, the curator of this exhibition, this full-day homage offers an in-depth workshop on questions of translation and typography, a series of newly staged readings of Weiner’s work by young artists, and a talk about her life and times.
Theater der Überforderung

Directed by Barbara Weber, part of Kunsthalle Zürich will turn into a multi-genre playhouse. At its center lies the radical work of the Japanese playwright, poet, photograph and moviemaker Terayama Shuji (1935–83). All rehearsals, discussions, lectures, and shows are open to the public during opening hours, and will be announced in more detail on our webpage.
Book TV
Books presentation and public TV-recording, a project by Géraldine Beck
Friday, April 10, 5pm
Book TV is a web project recorded in public, which aims to present selected printed matter. This first event at Kunsthalle Zürich introduces episodes #04 and #05. Vincent de Roguin, an artist based in Geneva, will speak about the migration of selected ideas and symbols, connecting Christian hermeticism, underground music and war propaganda iconography. Zürich-based art historian and curator Luca Beeler will look at artist publications catered to future generations, such as the ones by El Lissitzky, Andy Warhol, John Armleder, and Tana Hoban, among others.
