Dimitris Rentoumis, Appearances, 2014. Video projections on metal screens.

Academy of Art and Design AKV|St.Joost offers four full-time Master courses in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Breda in the south of the Netherlands.

The Master programmes help you, as a practicing professional or bachelor graduate, to deepen your knowledge and further develop skills of fine art and design, and to set an enhanced foundation for a durable artist practice.

A select group of artists and designers can enrich and professionalize their work under the guidance of an energetic team of tutors and guest-tutors. Students are constantly challenged to question and deepen their own practice while operating in different environments and situations.

Fine Art
The two-year Master of Fine Art is practice-oriented with a strong, stimulating theoretical component.

What does it mean to be an artist today? The focus of the Master course lies on the development of your work and to strengthen your position in the (art)world. Based on the strengths, demands and positions of artists within the current socio-economical reality, you are interested in researching alternatives, durable methods and models within a contemporary art practice.

The two-year Master of Photography allows you to study photography and other lens-based media in contemporary contexts. Taking the documentary discourse as a point of departure, your are invited to research, experiment and discover the different approaches and various media. Resulting, for example, in moving images, books, exhibitions, installations or internet projects.

Graphic Design
The two-year Master of Graphic Design focuses on information design. The course takes graphic design to a higher level through methodology of research-founded argumentation. Due to changes in technology and communication practices and demands are rapidly changing. We educate you as a graphic designer to become a capable and relevant thinker and developer in the contemporary discourse of graphic design.

The one-year Master of Animation allows you to investigate the broad role of animation within the context of media, art, design, games and science. These new contexts and application ranges of animation will give you clear insight into your own ambitions and possibilities—and will enable you to specialize individually. The Master of Animation is unique in the Netherlands.

We invite you to apply for one of the AKV|St.Joost Master courses.

Deadlines are March 23, May 25 and July 6.
Due to the time required to process staying permits and complete enrollment requirements, non-European applicants should submit their materials before May 25.
