Cranbrook Academy of Art, a preeminent graduate school of art, design and architecture, seeks applications for residential teaching fellowships for the 2016–17 academic year. Possibilities exist for one-semester or two-semester appointments. The Academy’s Critical Studies Fellowship Program brings scholars from a wide range of fields to work closely with Cranbrook graduate students to explore active intersections of contemporary theory and cultural studies with visual art and design practices.

For the 2016–17 fellowships, the Academy is seeking scholar-educators working in the field of global studies, including subjects of political economy, world-systems and social movements as they influence contemporary art and design. In a world where goods, services, people and identities travel physically and digitally, borders are blurred and ideas are fluid. We invite proposals on leading intellectual trends that reveal the consequences of an increasingly globalized world on our historically situated, individually motivated creative practices.

Candidates must hold an advanced degree in their field (MA or higher, PhD preferred), have graduate-level teaching experience and an interest in the links between their work and a visual art/craft/design studio practice. The Fellow will have both formal and informal time with students, including public lectures, discussion groups studio visits and critiques. Opportunities also exist for creative curatorial, research or other projects while in residence. This position is well-suited to an emerging professional, although all levels are invited to apply. Fellows must reside on campus and be free from other professional duties during the semester. International applicants are welcome to apply. Please note: we are not seeking candidates who are primarily studio artists or designers or a proposal of a studio-based series.

Fellowship includes:
– Stipend
– Travel allowance toward R/T travel to campus and/or professional activities
– Housing (private furnished apartment on campus)

To apply, please compile a single PDF that includes:
– Completed application form
– Letter of interest (please include an indication of preference for a one- or two-semester fellowship)
– Proposal of a series or theme for the teaching-fellowship (please outline two lectures and three discussion topics)
– Academic CV (including bibliography of published work)
– Links to lectures or presentations available online
– Names and contact information for three references (must include telephone numbers)
– Please title your application PDF with your first and last name (example: marie.curie.pdf)
