Villa Vassilieff, a cultural establishment owned by the City of Paris, is a new space for art, residencies and research. It will open in February 2016 in the heart of Montparnasse.

Led by Bétonsalon–Center for Art and Research, Villa Vassilieff is a space to work and live, to stimulate ideas and to encourage the sharing of knowledge. The former location of Russian artist Marie Vassilieff’s studio has been a major focal point of artistic discussion, as it witnessed the emergence of 20th-century pioneers such as Cahun, Cendrars, Modigliani, and Picasso. Looking ahead, the Villa intends to revive the spirit of this place by inviting artists and researchers to develop their work around the unique resources offered by the Montparnasse neighbourhood.

Pernod Ricard has joined forces with the Villa Vassilieff to create the Pernod Ricard Fellowship: a grant aimed at supporting four artists, curators and researchers to come in residence every year.

Selected by an international committee, the four Fellows will be invited to spend three months in a refurbished historical studio. They will enjoy bespoke support from researchers and art professionals, along with access to a rich network of institutions in France and abroad, including the Centre Pompidou. Fellows will collaborate with museums, public and private archives, universities and art schools through research programmes focusing on unexplored resources. Lastly, the Fellows will enjoy the dynamic events programme at Villa Vassilieff, offering various paths for conducting new investigations and collecting multiple stories of our globalized world.

About Villa Vassilieff
The Villa has witnessed over a century of history and represents an outstanding cultural heritage. Throughout its history, it was a place characterised by encounters and experimentation.

The Villa strives to shake up art’s place in society in particular by questioning the role and uses of heritage. The programme aims to overcome linear chronologies and the outdated separation between fields of study in order to reshape the place of research, creation and teaching in art.

Villa Vassilieff benefits from the support of the Ile-de-France Region and the Fondation Nationale des Arts Graphiques et Plastiques. Pernod Ricard is its leading sponsor.

About Pernod Ricard
