The Master in Fine Art programme at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design is an international, two-year programme known for its dynamic, non-medium-specific approach to higher education in the arts.

This programme believes in the art academy not just as a place of transition into professional practice, but as an important arena in itself, one where artistic discourse and production can be actively developed, questioned and challenged. The programme focuses on artistic practice and exhibition, critical discussion, experimentation, theory and writing as main teaching tools.

Students admitted to the Master programme are active artists, self-driven, able to work in groups, and interested in developing a critical language.

Students accepted into the programme have access to individual work-spaces, project rooms, various workshops, and funds to plan and carry out academic and research components during their course.

The programme includes study trips, group exhibitions, and collaborations with other professional artistic institutions and venues in Norway and abroad. The final MA exhibition is held at Bergen Kunsthall, one of Scandinavia’s most prestigious art institutions.

Teaching language is English, and there are no tuition fees.
