Hamza Walker:
“In, around and under some contemporary exhibitions”

At the heart of organizing exhibitions are questions about the nature of the arts experience. Some are pragmatic while others are philosophical. Walker is driven by questions such as: Can the present be made legible through the work of art? What kind of information is art? When is art a means to an end versus an end itself? Walker has worked on a panoply of exhibitions. Using a selection of these as case studies, he will share the situations from which such questions emerge.
Walid Raad:
“Scratching on things I could disavow: A History of Art in the Arab World (2007 – )”
Artist, author and Associate Professor of Art, The Cooper Union
This project examines new infrastructure for the visual arts alongside the geo-political, economic, social and military conflicts that consume the greater Middle East region. Raad will address The Atlas Group (1989–2004), which he established in Beirut to preserve, study, and produce audio, visual, literary, and other documents that shed light on Lebanon’s history while creating his own fictional archive.
