The MPS in Arts and Cultural Management is a two-year 42-credit executive-style Master’s that encourages participants to consider their role in society and their respective communities as cultural arbiters and educators. The program develops leaders able to use their creativity strategically to foster creative expression, build creative community and shape a commerce of ideas and images in an increasingly challenged and mediated world. It prepares participants to lead and manage in a changing cultural landscape that includes new challenges, new media, and new forms of cultural expression. The MPS provides a collaborative learning community that sharpens critical thinking, deepens reflective practice, and develops strategic leadership skills.

The program covers five study areas:
–making connections-marketing, development, and education
–people and organizational dynamics
–operating environments
–finance, decision-making, and information systems

The program’s schedule and experience-based learning approach is modeled on successful executive MBA programs, with a schedule of alternating weekends (Saturday and Sunday) that allows participants to continue their full job responsibilities while they study. Classes are held for 12 hours every other weekend, coupled with a full week of instruction at the beginning, and a summer intensive that includes three weekdays.

Design Management
The Design Management MPS is a two-year accredited executive style Master of Professional Studies ranked among the top programs of its kind by BusinessWeek. It bridges the disciplines of design and business management, enabling graduates to assume leadership roles in a variety of creative disciplines. It is tailored to provide an executive education more focused than an MBA on the special needs of design leaders managing design firms or managing design teams in creative industries. Participants come from a variety of disciplines, including industrial design, interior design, graphic design, fashion design, communication and information design, interactive media design, and architecture.

The curriculum is designed to develop strategic management skills in six study areas related to design management:
–operations management
–financial management
–marketing management
–organization and human resource management
–management of innovation and change
–management of local, regional, and global suppliers, distributors, and markets

The courses provide participants with an integrated focus on the role of design in the creation and management of strategic and sustainable advantage.

Classes meet every other weekend for two full days or 12 hours. In addition, students attend for a full week at the beginning and middle of the program. An integrative experience at the end of the two-year period provides the opportunity for several brief, intensive courses, including behavioral simulation and negotiating modules. By the time Design Management students graduate, they are able to strategically manage a design department or a professional design firm worldwide, use design to create sustainable advantage for their businesses, and shape the way business is designed.

Both programs are housed at Pratt’s Manhattan campus in the exciting Chelsea area of New York City.
