About the University of the Arts graduate community
At the University of the Arts, we believe that the arts have the power to transform society. For almost a century and a half, UArts has prepared leaders in the visual and performing arts who produce exciting and powerful work but who also solve complex problems—contributing to the local and global economy in bold and meaningful ways. Unique to the UArts experience, our graduate students belong to a university devoted to all of the arts, and only the arts, meaning as you specialize in one, you benefit from the context of all.

Our programs empower students as leaders of innovative work across the arts. Supported by and in collaboration with our accomplished faculty, our graduate students emerge as creators who wield immediate impact both within UArts, and within their respective fields. From our studios, workshops, makerspaces and classrooms, our graduates produce work that permeates the halls, walls, stores and stages of countless creative industries.

Located in Philadelphia, UArts exists as a vibrant and vital component of the local creative economy but also affords students opportunities for learning and experiences beyond the city limits. Less than a two-hour train ride to New York City and less than three to Washington, D.C., UArts’ central location provides students the ability to visit museums, galleries, theaters, artist studios and venues along the entire Northeast Corridor. Our proximity has enabled students to complete fieldwork and internships in prominent institutions and performance venues from Boston to DC. From local institutions like the Library Company of Philadelphia, WRTI Radio, the Philadelphia Zoo, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Chris’ Jazz Cafe, to partners further afield like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Baltimore Aquarium, the National Gallery and the National Park Service, our graduate students are immersed in their field from the very beginning.

UArts possesses a deep understanding for what it really takes to make it in today’s world. Graduate programs at the University prepare students for successful careers as artists, educators, writers, fundraisers, directors, designers, producers and performers through strong pedagogy and countless opportunities for interdisciplinary learning and collaboration. Also, an invaluable resource for current students and recent graduates, the Corzo Center for the Creative Economy offers a range of programs to help support students and recent alumni through workshops, one-on-one consulting, grants and networking with a wide range of partnership organizations and institutions in Philadelphia and beyond. The Center was formed to keep art where it belongs—central to society and an economy that requires ideas and imagination.

Our students choose UArts to drive their art, their talents and their careers forward. We invite you to discover all your possibilities.
