Università Iuav di Venezia is glad to announce the opening of its Master of Arts in Curatorship of Architecture and Design.

The Master in Curatorship of Architecture and Design aims to train professionals capable of developing curatorial projects with a solid foundation in theory and critical thinking with a vast knowledge of strategies in exhibition making. The master’s goal is to stimulate innovative curatorial approaches aiming to generate new ways of thinking and understanding our built and natural environment.

Taking advantage of its location, the Università Iuav di Venezia offers participants a unique opportunity to immerse in a multicultural context during the international exhibition at the Venice Biennale and the Triennale of Milano, venues that will enrich the program with a direct involvement on site.

The programme consists of three study modules, an internship placement and a final curatorial project as a thesis. The students will be involved in interdisciplinary seminars and lectures related to the contemporary curatorial practice. Seminars and lecture series will be held by numerous leading curators in the EU community, cultural practitioners including designers and architects and a selected group of IUAV professors.

The programme welcomes applicants from all over the world and with a broad spectrum, participants with backgrounds in architecture, history, art, anthropology, visual and communication studies, and other related disciplines will discover the multifaceted approach of contemporary curatorial practice of Architecture and Design in the international atmosphere of Venice.

All courses will be conducted in English.

Pippo Ciorra
Professor of Theory and Design at the SAAD of Ascoli Piceno. Coordinator of the International Doctorate VdH at the Università IUAV di Venezia. Senior Curator at MAXXI Architecture.

Pedro Gadanho
Director of the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), Lisbon. Previously he was a Curator at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), New York. Recipient of the FAD Prize for Thought And Criticism in 2012.

Andres Lepik
Director of the Architekturmuseum der TU of Munich. Professor of Architectural History and Curatorial Practice. Co-Curator of Mud WORKS! presented at the Venice Architecture Bienniale 2016.

Luka Skansi
Historian of architecture and assistant professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Rijeka, Croatia. Guest curator at the Venice Architecture Bienniale 2014.

James Taylor-Foster
European Editor-at-Large, ArchDaily; Senior Editor, LOBBY Magazine. Co-Curator of the 2016 Nordic Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Christophe Pourtois 
Former director of the Centre International pour la Ville, L’Architecture et le Paysage (CIVA). Organiser of exhibitions at the CIVA, V&A, MAXXI, EPFL Lausanne, Musee des Beaux-Arts at Cherbourg and the Venice Bienniale.
