Studio Art (Summer Low-Residency MFA)

Embrace your art practice in MICA’s Studio Art (Summer Low-Residency MFA), a program designed to give experienced artists the time, space, and resources to integrate practice with critical theory while still maintaining their careers.

Studio Art (Summer Low-Residency MFA) students:
–Form an MFA experience through six-week residencies over four summers and work collaboratively with faculty mentors throughout the rest of the year
–Maintain independent studios over the summer in MICA’s state-of-the-art Fred Lazarus IV Center for Graduate Studies
–Work across various media, including: painting, sculpture, installation, video, sound, photography and digital imaging
–Develop a professional body of work and participate in a supportive community of faculty mentors and peers
–Develop a sustainable art practice

Additionally, each summer, the Studio Art (Summer Low-Residency MFA) program hosts a world-class Visiting Speaker series. Visiting speakers conduct studio visits with students. Recent speakers have included: Julie Ault, Sanford Biggers, Connie Butler, Mark Dion, Zoe Charlton, Lynn Hershman-Leeson, Catherine Lord, Jeannine Tang, Gregory Sholette, Richard Tuttle, and Cecilia Vicuna.

Candidates applying by February 15, 2017 will be considered for the June 2017 start.
