THE DUTCH ART INSTITUTE (DAI) is a 2-year MFA Program in Arnhem, The Netherlands (English-language based) and part of ArtEZ faculty of Art & Design; ArtEZ being one of the major art educational institutes in the NL.
The DAI seeks to engage with energetic and inquisitive artists and employs a model of ‘fleeting collectivities’ to help students develop tailor-made connections between their own artistic practice and public domains. By means of our fluid curriculum that integrates independent research and production, theory, reflection and curatorial knowledge with collaborative hands-on projects, the DAI empowers their ‘engaged-autonomous’ relations with various art scenes and the world at large.
In partnership with leading institutes and initiatives (e.g. Manifesta, Casco, If I Can’t Dance I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution, Werkplaats Typografie and the Van Abbe Museum), the DAI develops experimental research, performance and publication projects that bring together practitioners from all over the world, a community committed to beauty, imagination and critical resistance.
THE DAI’S UNIQUE FORMAT: for one week per month (11 times per year), our 35 students plus faculty and guests reside at the DAI and take part in a very intense program consisting of lectures, seminars, projects (on location outside the Netherlands), workshops, evaluations of student work which lasts from early morning until late at night, when discussions continue over inspired communal dinners.
