Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) is proud to announce a brand new interdisciplinary MA programme called Contemporary Art. The programme offers author-focussed tutoring for contemporary artists and freedom to develop one’s art practice and design an individual curriculum, within a diverse programme that offers theoretical tools and practical trainings.

“The new curriculum gives students and teaching staff ample time and opportunities to socialise and focus on creating art. The study format is very open, in constant dialogue with both the contemporary art world and society, while at the same providing time and space for inner reflection,” said professor Kirke Kangro, the Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts at EKA. “Do not hesitate to apply if the development of your individual artistic practice is important for you. If the processes in society matter to you and you are passionate about your surroundings. If you like to think, imagine and create,” she added.

Together with the new curriculum, Estonian Academy of Arts offers eight international Master’s programmes:
Animation / Contemporary Art / Design and Crafts (specialisations: Ceramics, Glass Art and Design, Jewellery and Blacksmithing, Textile Design, Fashion Design or Leather Art and Design)Design and Technology Futures / Interaction Design / Interior Architecture / Literature, Visual Culture and Film Studies / Urban Studies

The international Master’s programmes are designed for artists and designers with the ambition to develop and enrich their individual practice with cross-disciplinary investigations. EKA encourages bold experimentation, and students are able to take courses and workshops outside of their specialisations.

The teaching language of the international Master’s programmes is English. Duration of each programme is two years (120 ECTS). Applications for the 2018/19 academic year will be accepted until May 3, 2018.

Estonian Academy of Arts
The Estonian Academy of Arts, founded in 1914, is the only public university in Estonia offering a wide selection of curricula in the four faculties of Architecture, Design, Art Culture and Fine Arts. Located in the capital city, Tallinn, it is an active study and research institution and the leading national centre of innovation in visual culture.

EKA’s curricula are constructed in such a way as to cultivate the analytical abilities and critical thinking of students who develop into environmentally and socially conscientious creators. The lecturers and instructors are professionals in their field—internationally recognised artists, architects, designers, historians, and scholars who provide unique, individualised study and personal mentorship in a quaint and synergetic atmosphere.

The departments are strong bodies of competence on their own, while facilitating interdisciplinary studies. Many faculties have been operating for close to a century. They have lengthy experience and historical continuity, yet also pioneer change in their field.

Nearly 1,100 students are currently enrolled at the Estonian Academy of Arts and are taught by more than 300 professors, associate professors, teachers and lecturers from Estonia and abroad. Studies take place in small groups of carefully selected students, and the Estonian Academy of Arts prides itself on the low student-to-professor ratio. This creates a more personal, one-on-one approach to instruction and a family-like, close-knit atmosphere.

In summer 2018, EKA will move into a brand new building in central Tallinn and the new academic year will begin in the new inspiring environment in September 2018.
