Headlands Center for the Arts announces the spring season of exhibitions and public events with current Artists in Residence, alumni artists, and cultural practitioners from across the Bay Area and beyond. Public events at Headlands offer audiences one-of-a-kind opportunities for deep and meaningful experiences with artistic process and place. Highlights are listed below, with the full calendar of events available at headlands.org.

Project Space Exhibitions
Open to the public five days a week
Sunday–Thursday, 12–5pm, free

Home to working studios and exhibitions by Headlands artists, Project Space is a place for art, ideas, and exchange. Spring Project Space exhibitions include a solo show by Artist in Residence Lucas Foglia of works from his recent series Human Nature and a new project, and a group show of work created at Headlands by the 2017–2018 Graduate Fellows, Mrinalini Aggarwal, Mark Baugh-Sasaki, Takming Chuang, Alison Haselbeck, Richard-Jonathan Nelson, Joshua Solis, and Faith Sponsler, guest curated by Rhiannon Evans MacFayden.

Wall Space
See writer Tongo Eisen-Martin’s new poem for Wall Space, Headlands’ changing outdoor showcase of literary arts in The Commons, designed by Chris Kabel and curated by Claudia La Rocco. Free and open to the public. 

Spring public programs: exploring process and place

Sunday, March 25, 12–5pm 
Open House 
Meet Headlands artists, see work in progress, attend performances and readings, enjoy a house-made lunch, and more.

Sunday, April 8, 12pm 
Desire Trails 
Desire paths are well-trodden trails created by foot traffic, where the ground becomes imprinted evidence of a place that wants to be discovered and the people who seek it out. Embark on multilayered journeys into the geologic folded and faulted terrain of the Marin Headlands on guided hikes led by artists and scientists who interpret the complex chronology of local ideas, rocks, and land. Led by Sebastian Alvarez, Andrea Steves, Yulia Pinkusevich, Francois Hughes, Minoosh Zomorodinia, Astrid Kaemmerling, and Tara Shi.

Seasonal signatures: gathering the community throughout the year

Wednesday, April 4, 6pm
Members Dinner
This seasonal dinner is an opportunity for Headlands Members to enjoy studio visits with current artists and a chef-prepared meal, served family-style in our historic, artist-renovated Mess Hall.

Sunday, April 22, 6:30pm
Sunday Supper
Have dinner with us at our seasonal supper, crafted and cooked by Headlands’ Chef Damon Little and served family-style in our historic, artist-renovated Mess Hall. Bring a couple of old friends, or come ready to make some new ones, and let the weekend come to a close around an inspired table.
