MICA Grad Show III

The Maryland Institute College of Art proudly announces MICA Grad Show III, featuring the work of 48 students from the College’s five MFA programs: Community Arts, Leroy E. Hoffberger School of Painting, Mount Royal School of Art, Photographic and Electronic Media and Rinehart School of Sculpture.

Curated by Ian Cofre and Darren Jones, MICA Grad Show III will be on view April 13–29 in galleries on MICA’s Baltimore campus and in Station North. All spaces are free and open to the public. An opening reception will be held Saturday, April 14, 5–8:30pm.

About the curators
Ian Cofre is an independent curator, writer and translator based in Brooklyn, N.Y. He works with emerging and established artists, and his main areas of interest are Latin America, examining the art market, alternative economies and their modes of art production, turning the lens onto underrepresented artists and marginalized communities, and contextualizing artists cross-generationally. He has previously worked as U.S. director for the 2013 PINTA NY and as studio manager for both Mickalene Thomas and Ray Smith. His writings have appeared in the Brooklyn Rail, artcritical, Arte al Día.

Darren Jones is a US-based, Scottish-born artist, curator and critic. His writing has been widely published, including in Artforum, ArtUS, Artslant and The Brooklyn Rail. His studio practice includes text-based works, often in response to everyday observations, and arrangements and displays of common objects as cultural commentary. He has exhibited extensively in group and solo exhibitions, including at the State Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow; Royal Scottish Academy Galleries, Edinburgh; National Library of Argentina, Buenos Aires; Queens Museum of Art, New York.His book, The Contemporary Art Gallery: Display, Power and Privilege, co-authored with David Carrier, was published in 2016.
