Design

Research studies at the School of Design and Crafts at the University of Gothenburg aim to build up a close link between research and design practice, together with questions of great societal relevance. Experiences of earlier design work, concrete design projects and artistic issues should play an important part in the thesis work. Research work may concentrate on the design of products and environments of different kinds, and also on visual communication. It may also include more comprehensive issues, e.g. the question of sustainability and processes. The School of Design and Crafts is affiliated to the national Research School of Design.

Photographic Composition

The School of Photography offers a research and education environment where critical and examining perspectives of the changeable possibilities, identities and functions of photography in a changing world constitute a central part. Research studies are carried out in a joint supervisory group together with the Valand School of Fine Arts and in the Faculty Research School.

This department aims at research that focuses on the communicative possibilities of photography. These include questions that treat visuality and representation, institution and reception, together with the rhetorical forms of photography.
