Pacific Northwest College of Art is Currently Accepting Applications for Boundary Crossings: An Institute in Contemporary Animated ArtsBoundary CrossingsTraversing the terrain of space, time and form, this two-week innovative institute explores the future of film as a form of architecture and also as an extension of the body through infused theory and practice sessions, lectures, screenings and hands-on making. In redefining animation and the manipulated image, animated art forms are pushed beyond the movies to permeate our cultural landscape.
Application is open to practitioners working in the field and upper division undergraduate and graduate level students. Guided by internationally renowned scholars and current practitioners, students will select from two strands for a two-week course of study:

Boundary Crossings: An Institute in Contemporary Animated Arts provides an intensive immersion in interdisciplinary explorations designed to prompt critical and creative outcomes at the leading edge of contemporary animated arts and scholarship.

Institute Director
Rose Bond produces work at the juncture of animation, architecture and public art. She has received honors from the American Film Institute, The Princess Grace Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her large-scale, site-specific installations navigate the allegories of place and include “Broadsided!” at Exeter Castle 2010; “Intra Muros,” shown during the 2007 Platform International Animation Festival and during the Holland Animation Film Festival in 2008 and “Gates of Light,” Museum at Eldridge Street, NYC, 2004. She is an associate professor and department chair in Contemporary Animated Arts at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Learn more about Rose on her website.
Faculty
Norman Klein is a critic, novelist and historian of urban and media culture. His work centers on the relationship between collective memory and power and its mediation in cultural production and consumption.
Lorelei Pepi is an internationally recognized and award-winning animator whose work includes highly experimental forms. Her work is interdisciplinary and explores animation vis-à-vis a variety of art practices and cinematic production.
Marina Zurkow has been recognized for her moving, psychological narratives, primarily in animated form, about humans and their relationship to animals, plants and the weather. Zurkow’s work ranges from multi-channel videos, customized multi-screen computer pieces and cartoons, to participatory, temporary, public artworks.
