Friday, March 25 at 7 PMThe Symposium begins Friday evening, March 25, with a keynote talk by Buzz Spector, book artist and Dean, College and Graduate School of Art in the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Washington University, St. Louis, followed by a cocktail reception.

Saturday, March 26, will begin with a continental breakfast followed by presentations by exhibiting artists Douglas Beube and Melissa Jay Craig and a talk by Mark Dimunation, Chief of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division, Library of Congress. After a box lunch, speakers will include exhibiting artist Brian Dettmer and Bettina Richards, founder of Thrill Jockey records.

The Gretchen Hupfel Symposium is named for Gretchen Hupfel, a conceptually oriented artist who worked in many different disciplines. She passed away in 2002 at the age of thirty-nine. This named lecture furthers the legacy of a passionate and remarkably talented artist and not only commemorates her death, but celebrates her life. About the DCCA
The DCCA, a non-collecting art museum founded in 1979, presents between 25 – 30 exhibitions annually of regionally, nationally and internationally recognized artists that explore topical issues in contemporary art and society. The DCCA provides individual studios to more than 25 artists, who also exhibit regularly within its galleries and throughout the region. The DCCA presents a variety of educational and outreach programs, including programs that integrate contemporary arts into the public school curriculum, and artists’ residencies that feature collaboration with underserved community groups. The center is housed in a renovated industrial building in the heart of the rejuvenated Wilmington Riverfront.
