Pratt Institute School of Art and Design seeks two new Chairs for the Departments of Fine Arts and Photography. Both departments are located on Pratt’s historic 25-acre campus in the culturally rich and diverse neighborhood of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. We seek exceptional applicants who will bring the experience necessary to assume the academic and administrative leadership of their respective departments, and the vision to build for the future upon the existing programs. Each administrative appointment carries a 12-month per year workload and a three-year contract that may be renewed.

Pratt provides one of the most comprehensive professional art and design educations available, supported by a distinguished faculty and exceptional technical and studio resources. Gifted students from across the United States and the world collaborate and learn at Pratt, weaving creative energy and opportunity into an unmatched educational experience.

The faculty is composed of professional artists, designers, critics, historians, and practitioners whose works, projects, and publications are recognized and respected around the world and whose ranks include numerous recipients of such prestigious awards as the Tiffany, Fulbright, and Guggenheim fellowships.

Two major objectives guide every department. The first is an emphasis on professional-skills development. The school’s students gain the techniques, skills, methodology, and vocabulary required for success as productive artists, designers, and scholars.

The second objective—imperative so that the professional expertise is not simply technical training—is development of the critical judgment and historical perspective needed to become a problem solver. Art and design history, melded with studies in the liberal arts and sciences, provide the context for stimulating intellectual and creative inquiry.

In addition to the outstanding curricula and faculty, the School of Art and Design offers a diverse range of degree offerings. Art and Design programs are also enriched by Pratt’s distinguished professional programs in architecture and information and library science, all within the broader cultural campus of New York City.
