Become a master of animation
Estonian Academy of Arts is offering a 2-year Master of Arts in Animation programme to students interested in animation directing and filmmaking.

If you are an ambitious and determined artist, with the talent, motivation, and desire to create unique work form new directions and realise your career aspirations as an animation director, this course is ideal. The course combines several disciplines, e.g. animation, scriptwriting, history of animation, and media theory, making the background of this MA programme trans-disciplinary.

The coursework mainly concentrates on classical and experimental techniques, i.e. drawing animation, stop motion, cut-outs, sand animation, painting under the camera, etc. In the professional sense, students will direct and produce animated films.

The courses are taught by award-winning animation directors and artists Priit Pärn, Olga Pärn, and Ülo Pikkov. Students of the animation department organize the annual festival Animated Dreams, which is part of POFF, the Dark Nights Film Festival, held in Estonia during the dim evenings of Autumn.

The whole curriculum is taught in English.
Apply by May 15 (EU students by June 10), 2012 at www.animaster.ee.
Urban Studies MA
The urban question permeates all major social, economic, and political developments of today. With increasing complexity on the urban field, we face new demand for knowledge about cities and urban change.

The mission of the MA programme in Urban Studies is to grasp the complexity of this situation and to elaborate adequate response at the level of design, policy, and research. The interdisciplinary programme focuses on new analytic methods and design solutions that critically engage with the wide-ranging manifestation of contemporary urbanity.

Estonia, an established member state of the EU, provides a fruitful context for a forward-looking education in Urban Studies because of its agile society, advanced technological base, social mobility, and rapid urban change.

The focus of Urban Studies is on processes, forms, and uses that shape cities and urban regions. The MA programme is trans-disciplinary, integrating bodies of knowledge of architecture, planning studies, art history, sociology, geography, anthropology, political science, and economics.

The distinctive mark of the MA in Urban Studies is its reliance on theoretically informed action in the field. An important part of the studies consists of semi-realistic design studio projects that engage real actors. In pursuing a creative agenda, the artistic context of the Estonian Academy of Arts is a specific strength of the programme.

Apply by May 15, 2012 at www.artun.ee/admission.
The whole curriculum is taught in English. Find out more at urban.artun.ee.
