Contemporary Editions Forum / 5th Edition is a space dedicated to editorial work, organized by Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Distrito Editorial and Textofilia. On this fifth edition the forum reaches half a decade. The main objective is that of promoting dialogue, distribution and gatherings between publishers and their readers. The forum, free and for all age groups, will receive more than sixty publishers, contemporary artists, writers and publishers, both national and international. As it is custom year after year there is a special selection of contemporary publications. Being Spain this year´s international guest. Contemporary Editions Forum / 5th Edition is a celebratory gathering, a place where a series of activities such as: book, magazines and fanzines sales, roundtables, conferences, workshops and book presentations, will be held.

Every edition a theme and a guest country are chosen to be the thematic focus of the forum. This 2012 is the year of the libraries; we want to approach them from different perspectives and possibilities. We are interested in a n non conventional approach, rather seeing them as an organized collection of books and publications available for consultation. We want libraries to generate a reflection upon other uses such as: private collections, educational and formative devices, digital archives, mobile libraries; overall conceiving the library as something above than the book itself.

“…I, that used to figure Paradise, In such a library’s guise.” wrote Jorge Luis Borges, in “Poem about gifts” (1960). To this romantic and idealistic vision, we should add hell making evident that the content of the library depends on the decision and will in which the books are collected, grouped, organized and the way in which these are arranged for their use.

In this edition and thanks to the support of Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (National Fund for Culture and Arts), Centro Cultural de España ) Spanish Cultural Center) and the Spanish embassy in México, our international guest this year is Spain. The editorial relationships between both countries have been of most importance, being this the reason why this year independent publishing houses join us, such as: Anagrama, Acantilado y Siruela, very important in the actual literary scene, also joining Páginas de Espuma, Libros del Silencio, Arrebato Libros, Barbara Fiore, Belleza Infinita, Editorial Delirio, Iguapop Gallery, Tándem Ediciones y Bang Ediciones, as an example of solid proposals that seek new routes. As it is custom each year we add four new Argentinian projects: Vox, Pequeño Editor, Revista Diccionario and the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba editorial. All of these are excellent examples of Argentina´s actual publishing market. Also joining us this year is Pa/per View, which brings a selection of editorials from: Belgium, Italy, Portugal and France. Peru will have presence through Álbum del Universo Bakterial y Librería Inestable and Bom dia boa tarde boa noite from Germany;

Ediciones Ekaré from Venezuela and Werkplaats Typografie from the Netherlands; all of thsese having creativity, originality and high standards as their trademark.

Thus once again, we open the forum to newcomers, readers and curious audiences for them to contact the meticulous of both national and international publishing houses.
