The Art and Art Education program of Columbia University Teachers College is accepting applications for the 2013 Intensive Summer Teacher Education Program (INSTEP). Program faculty are seeking outstanding and highly motivated applicants to join our dynamic community of artist/teacher practitioners and researchers.

About the INSTEP program
A low-residency route to the completion of Professional Certification, the INSTEP program is resigned for public, private and initially-certified teachers looking for a convenient and exciting way to obtain a masters degree. The program provides teachers the opportunity to continue their examination of curriculum theory and development, pedagogy, and policy without interrupting their careers.

About the Art & Art Education programs at Teachers College
Located on the Upper West Side of New York City, the work of the program is deeply engaged with the museums, cultural, and community life of the City. It also has a long track record of serving the arts community in the United States and throughout the world through the work of its graduates who hold prestigious positions in schools, museums, community settings, art colleges, and universities.

The Program is framed to address the pluralistic demands of contemporary art education, integrating studio and educational practice, theory, and research. Courses give priority to learning through dialogue within which individuals are encouraged to hone their individual analytical and reflective skills. Support for professional development is offered through real-world experiences in diverse arts settings, individual tutorials, collaborative projects, and advising that build deep—yet flexible—skills needed for the future. The Program offers rich resources from specially equipped studios in which students engage in both traditional and innovative cross-media practice, as well as our own Macy Art Gallery, whose full exhibition schedule, lecture series, weekend workshops, and symposia draw artists and scholars from around the world.
