Pratt Institute presents Pratt Shows 2015, an annual series of events and exhibitions featuring the year’s boldest ideas and best work in fine arts, fashion, film/video, photography, design, and more. The programming is free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. Many events are timed to coincide with NYCxDESIGN, New York City’s official citywide celebration of design. Highlights from Pratt Shows 2015 are below.

Design

April 29–30, 2015
Fake ID: Masters of Industrial Design thesis presentation: Twenty-two Masters of Industrial Design degree candidates will make individual thesis presentations capped by an exhibition and reception. The work is organized around the theme Fake ID, which highlights the expanding and changing definition of industrial design today. Reception: April 30, 6–9pm. Presentations: April 29 and 30, 1–6pm. Pratt Institute Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator, 630 Flushing Avenue (entrance via Tompkins Avenue), 7th floor, Brooklyn.

May 11–14, 2015
2015 Pratt Design: This exhibition features exceptional design work by seniors and postgraduates from Pratt Institute’s newly founded School of Design. The show reveals a diverse range of “what’s next” concepts in advertising, communications design, fashion, graphic design, illustration, industrial design, interactive design, interior design, jewelry design, and package design. Digital Arts

May 4, 2015
Department of Digital Arts screening day: A screening of senior capstone projects by BFA degree candidates and thesis projects by MFA degree candidates from Pratt Institute’s Department of Digital Arts. May 4, 5:30–9:30pm. BAM Rose Cinemas, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn. Tickets: Free with RSVP; pick-up in the lobby of BAM on entering the event.

 

Fashion

May 7, 2015
2015 Pratt Institute fashion show & cocktail benefit: Pratt Institute’s 116th annual fashion show will feature exemplary work by graduating seniors from the Fashion Department. The ticketed runway show will honor Francisco Costa, Women’s Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection, with the Pratt Fashion Visionary Award. A ticketed cocktail benefit with Costa will follow. Proceeds benefit Pratt scholarship funds and the Institute’s Fashion Department. Fashion Show: May 7, 6pm. Center548, 548 West 22nd Street, Manhattan. Cocktail Benefit: May 7, 7:30pm. Dream Meatpacking District, 355 West 16th Street, Manhattan. 

 

Film/Video And Photography

May 11–23, 2015
Home is Where the House Is: Film/Video and Photography Thesis Exhibition: A joint exhibition between Pratt Institute’s Departments of Film/Video and Photography highlights an eclectic collection of works by graduating seniors. Curated by Visiting Assistant Professor of Photography Justine Kurland, the exhibition reflects the shared values that students place on personal experience that is located at the intersection of where their home was and where it is now. Opening reception: May 13, 6–8pm. Runs: May 11–23. Gallery hours: Monday–Saturday, 11am–6pm; Thursday until 8pm. Pratt Manhattan Gallery, 144 West 14th Street, 2nd Floor, Manhattan.

May 18, 2015
Pratt Film/Video Senior Thesis Show: This two-part screening features both student and jury-selected fiction, documentary, and experimental films by emerging filmmakers from Pratt Institute. Tickets are free, with RSVP. Student selects show: May 18, 5pm. Jury selects show: May 18, 8pm. BAM Rose Cinemas, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn.
