Philippe Jabre Visiting Professorship in Art History and Curating

The Department of Fine Arts and Art History at the American University of Beirut invites applications for the Philippe Jabre Visiting Professorship in Art History and Curating. The purpose of this professorship is to bring to the university a mature scholar with a distinguished record of academic activity. The area of specialization required is Contemporary Art History and Theory, and Theories, Methods and Practices of Curating, with interest in art of the Middle East and the Arab world. The position is available as either a one semester or a full year appointment, starting in August 15, 2017.

Applicants must demonstrate evidence of scholarly research and curatorial practice. Courses taught by Jabre Visiting Professor will form part of the new MA in Art History and Curating. Opportunities to collaborate with and curate exhibitions at AUB Art Galleries are available, and a teaching course might take the form of producing an exhibition with the assistance of students. The Jabre Visiting Professor will also deliver one public lecture per semester.

The applicant must hold a PhD in Art History, Curatorial Studies or a relevant field, and have experience as a scholar and a curator. The course load is one course per semester in addition to coordinating an art history reading seminar. The language of instruction is English.
