PICTURE BERLIN is a hybrid program founded in 2009 by artists for artists. PICTURE BERLIN is a network designed and built around each session’s artists. The strategy of the program is the lack of separation between studio practice, critiques, and shared meals. Every experience informs and builds on the next.
Heading into its eigth year PICTURE BERLIN, offers two residency sessions designed for emerging artists working in contemporary art and photography. A combination of a rigorous studio practice combined with integration into the Berlin art scene is the basis for the Summer Session. The dynamic programming offers lectures by Berlin based artists, one-on-one discussions with over ten international artists and curators, multiple exhibitions, group meals, in-progress work reviews, studio visits, a curatorial marathon, and artist walks.
The Fall Session is a condensed intensive ten-day professional practices program focused on networking and the practicalities of working as an artist in today’s art world. The international PICTURE BERLIN community of arts professionals support the residents by way of portfolio reviews, a coaching session, artist studio visits and practical advice for furthering one’s career through exposure to the Berlin art scene from the back door.
