SVA presents The History of the Leipzig School of Painting

Anna-Louise Kratzsch, founder and curator of the Leipzig International Art Programme (LIA) will present a history of Leipzig’s schools of art, their protagonists, and the historical and current reception of figurative art in Germany, particularly during Communism and continuing into the present.

LIA is a non-profit residency program that fosters international artists by providing them with spacious studios and cultural support, as well as opportunities to exhibit locally and abroad. The program links young artists with the regional and international art community associated with the Spinnerei, a former cotton mill, connecting them with galleries, collectors, museums and art institutions such as The Christoph Merian Foundation, Basel; The Japan Foundation, Tokyo, and The New York Academy of Art. LIA is Leipzig’s official art residency program and it is also supported by the Department for European and International Cooperation, Leipzig.
