The Academy of Fine Arts offers a friendly and professionally demanding working environment, with 105 students, a teaching staff of 16, visiting artists and post-master fellows. Teaching activity is centered around five core areas: art theory, painting, photography/video/film and intermedia/sound/digital art. Together, the Academy’s programs provide study in theory, artistic specialization through workshops and seminars, courses in artistic tools and methods, and studio practice. For an overview of past and current activities, visit: http://www.kunstakademioslo.com. In August 2010, the Academy of Fine Art will commence fall semester in its newly built facilities on the campus of the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, which will include state-of-the-art technical labs.
Professors have artistic and pedagogic responsibility for the development of their core area, and for the faculty’s resources within this area. A portion of the working hours are set aside for professors’ own artistic development.
Work responsibilities include teaching and the organization of teaching within the core area, as well as planning and implementation of teaching in art-related subjects with relevance above particular techniques and art forms. Professorships also include sensor work, jury participation and meeting activity.
