Art Writing presents Critical Information, an interdisciplinary conference examining the contemporary dialogue between art, media, and society. Organized by second-year students in the MFA Art Writing program at SVA, the Critical Information conference provides a critical forum for discussions at the juncture of media, theory, criticism, and the visual arts.
Each year, the conference focuses on a specific topic selected by the students. Under this year’s theme “Text and Image,” the conference will present the work of 10 invited participants on three panels: “Altered Perceptions” with Madeline Schwartzman, Clement Valla and Suzanne Anker; “Book as Object” with Matvei Yankelevich, Shannon Michael Cane and Andrew Roth; and “Reading Images” with Christian Patterson, Joel Smith, Nicholas Muellner and Marisol Limon Martinez.
Art Writing is now accepting applications for the fall 2016 term. Generous department scholarships are available on a competitive basis. To download an application, click here, or contact [email protected], T +212 592 2408 for further information.
The MFA Art Writing program at SVA offers a two-year course of study leading to an MFA degree. For students who want to improve their writing and advance their knowledge of contemporary art, theory, literature, and history, this concentrated program offers seminars by practicing critics, editors, philosophers, poets, and artists. The focus in writing is on the essay as form, as well as on shorter forms of review, through intensive writing practicums.
