ALWAYS LIFT INKING ROLLERS WHEN PRESS IS NOT IN OPERATION. IF ROLLERS ARE LEFT TURNING ON THE DRUM THE INK WILL DRY FASTER AND THE ROLLERS WILL BE SUBJECT TO NEEDLESS WEAR.
Program dates: July 15, 2013–August 23, 2013
Application deadline: February 15, 2013
Faculty: Will Holder
Guests: Richard Birkett, David Reinfurt, Alex Waterman
The Visual Arts Program and WILL HOLDER invite artists, designers and musicians to spend a six-week residency at The Banff Centre, DE-scribing, documenting and publishing existing work; or PRE-scribing and scoring work yet to be made. With the understanding of the professional/artistic imperative to document and publish ourselves and our work.
This program’s focus is on documentation and publishing, using scored and improvised musical APPROACHES—NOT the recital of music—to generate LANGUAGE as documentary form, around work from any profession, and using conversation as a model for improvised, piecemeal publishing.
Another World in the Studio
Program dates: September 2, 2013–November 1, 2013
Application deadline: March 1, 2013
Faculty: Sarah Anne Johnson
Guests: Graeme Patterson, Jeff Whetstone, additional guest to be announced
I want to spend time in my studio in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Sarah Anne Johnson invites artists to The Banff Centre to make, create and debate with a group of like minded individuals in the stunning location of the Canadian Rockies.
Open to all artistic disciplines, participants will be encouraged to spend time in the studio and take advantage of the Visual Arts department’s excellent facilities in photography, sculpture, printmaking, papermaking, ceramics, textiles, painting and drawing, sound and video.
Another World in the Studio is without an overarching theme or time-consuming program. Instead it offers generous studio time to make art, experiment with ideas and media, read books and articles, or write. There will be two intensive group critique sessions as well as individual studio visits with Sarah Anne Johnson and invited guests.
Winterjourney
Program dates: January 13, 2014–February 21, 2014
Application deadline: June 14, 2013
Faculty: Andreas Siqueland
Guests: Zachary Cahill, Sarah Ganz Blythe
Winterjourney is a thematic residency that will physically and artistically explore what this place and landscape, as view and collective memory, is for us today. Excursions into the land will challenge our studio practices. In confrontation with the elements we will make observations, and collect and assemble material that can serve as a basis for new work. Winterjourney is both a personal and collective endeavour. Presentations, readings, and discussions will form an integral part of the program. The residency is open to all forms of artistic practice within the visual arts. Remember to bring warm clothes and necessary equipment for adventure.
