New Objects, New Audiences
For the past five years, I.P.O. has featured salon-style dialogues between some of the most exciting curators, artists, and writers emerging in New York today.
In this new season, I.P.O. turns to ways work can be made and circulated, commissioning artists to develop multiples that will be made available–free of charge–for the Whitney’s public audiences.

Allison Smith is a New York-based artist whose diverse practice investigates the cultural phenomenon of historical reenactment and addresses the complex relationships among American history, social activism, craft, and queer identity. Her 2005 The Muster project transformed Governor’s Island into a dynamic campsite installation where participants answered the charge: “What are you fighting for?” A new book documenting the project, Allison Smith: The Muster, has just been published by the Public Art Fund.
